Offending Horse Names
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog
It seems a few offensive horse names have gotten through recently. I have changed those I have been notified of for the upcoming week. If you see any more, just let me know. With that in mind...
I really don't want to turn into the "horse name police." I'm busy enough trying to rewrite an entire game for my players. So please consider the following things when you name a horse :
* Is the name inappropriate for children? If so.. again.. don't use the name.
* Is the name a reference to a despicable or sexual act? If so.. don't use the name.
* Is the name a personal jab at a player? If so.. don't use the name.
I am going to assume that some of the horses I am being alerted to are simply "oversights", and not pointed in their meaning. I don't want to turn this into a "well, under this scenario, the name could mean this..." conversation, or a "freedom of speech" argument. I simply want to run a clean game that anyone feels comfortable playing. So if you see one of your horses renamed, simply review the reasons above and move forward. With that being said...
The new version will allow for flagging of offensive names, and stables with too many flags will simply lose the ability to name their own horses. My random horse name generator ain't great, but it beats me spending time on issues like this.

Chat Room - Working on it
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog
Hey guys!
The chatroom runs off of the server owned by our good buddies over at DriveTheLane.com. They seem to be having some pretty nasty server issues, so I'm going to attempt to move the chat server to my setup.
I haven't messed with this in years, and I may have to wait for him to send me some of the scripts.. but I'll get it done.. :)
Thanks for the patience!

2012 Derby Gathering!
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog
..havent heard a peep about anyone coming in this year, so I may be going this one alone... If you are going to make it, please let me know.. that way I know to look for you (and I'd prefer not sitting along until midnight.. that's kind of sad... :) I'm going to start a little bit later than usual, since most of the crowd comes late.
The 2012 Kentcucy Derby gathering is Friday, May 6th! I'll be getting there a few minutes before 8:00PM EST. I am sticking with Johnny V's since there is some familiarity with it (and Johnny V is a huge racing fan as well as a swell guy). The location is :
Johnny V's
10509 Watterson Trail Louisville, KY 40299 (502) 267-0900
From the Churchill Downs:
There are a couple of primary ways to get on the expressway depending on which street you end up taking out of Churchill downs. If you are on Central avenue heading east : pass the 4th street, 3rd street, and Floyd intersections. The next street is Crittenden Drive. Make a left. Go up about ~1000 ft and turn right onto I65 South. Follow the I65 south directions from the track below.
If you are on Longfield heading east : Longfield turns into 4th street as the street curves south. Take 4th street to Central. Turn right on Central. Pass the 3rd street, and Floyd intersections. The next street is Crittenden Drive. Make a left. Go up about ~1000 feet and turn right onto I65 South. Follow the I65 south directions from the track below.
If you are on Central avenue OR Longfield heading west : Go to Taylor Boulevard (the first main street). Make a left. Follow Taylor Bloulevard to I-264 east. Take I264 east about 2 miles up and get onto I-65 South. Follow the I65 south directions from the track below. I65 South Instructions From the Track: Take the Gene Snyder / KY-841 / I-265 East (I think this will be exit 125) Drive about 12 Miles Take exit 23 towards Jeffersontown At the end of the ramp, turn left: this is Taylorsville Road Watterson Trail will be at a red light about 3 miles down. There is an El Nopal (NOT the one we went too last year) on your right. You can see Johnny V's across from the light on your right at the corner of Watterson Trail. There is a Hardwar Store in the same strip mall. You can park in the back. If you see a KFC on your left, you've gone a hair too far.
If you are heading straight to the gathering or not coming from Churchill :
From I-71 South (Cincinnati)
Take 71 South to Exit 9a - Gene Snyder / I-265 South
Drive about 11 Miles Take Exit 23 toward Jeffersontown / Taylorsville At the end of the ramp, turn right : this is Taylorsville Road Watterson Trail will be at a red light about 3 miles down. There is an El Nopal (NOT the one we went too last year) on your right. You can see Johnny V's across from the light on your right at the corner of Watterson Trail. There is a King Southern bank in the same strip mall. You can park in the back. If you see a KFC on your left, you've gone a hair too far.
From I-64 West (Lexington)
Take I-64 West to Exit 19a - Gene Snyder / I-265 South Drive about 3 Miles Take Exit 23 toward Jeffersontown / Taylorsville At the end of the ramp, turn right : this is Taylorsville Road Watterson Trail will be at a red light about 3 miles down. There is an El Nopal (NOT the one we went too last year) on your right. You can see Johnny V's across from the light on your right at the corner of Watterson Trail. There is a King Southern bank in the same strip mall. You can park in the back. If you see a KFC on your left, you've gone a hair too far.
From I-64 East (St. Louis)
Take I-64 East to Exit 19a - Gene Snyder / I-265 South Drive about 3 Miles Take Exit 23 toward Jeffersontown / Taylorsville At the end of the ramp, turn right : this is Taylorsville Road Watterson Trail will be at a red light about 3 miles down. There is an El Nopal (NOT the one we went too last year) on your right. You can see Johnny V's across from the light on your right at the corner of Watterson Trail. There is a King Southern bank in the same strip mall. You can park in the back. If you see a KFC on your left, you've gone a hair too far.
From I-65 North (Nashville)
Take I-65 North to Exit 125-A - Gene Snyder / KY-841 / I-265 East Drive about 12 Miles Take exit 23 towards Jeffersontown At the end of the ramp, turn left : this is Taylorsville Road Watterson Trail will be at a red light about 3 miles down. There is an El Nopal (NOT the one we went too last year) on your right. You can see Johnny V's across from the light on your right at the corner of Watterson Trail. There is a King Southern bank in the same strip mall. You can park in the back. If you see a KFC on your left, you've gone a hair too far.
From I-65 South (Indianapolis)
I will give you 2 sets of directions. The quickest is if you make the transfer onto I-64 East immediately after crossing into Louisville. If you do so, simply use the I-64 east directions above at this point.
If you miss that, or prefer not to take that route for some reason :
Continue taking I-65 South Drive about 10 Miles Take the Gene Snyder / KY-841 / I-265 East (I think this will be exit 125) Drive about 12 Miles Take exit 23 towards Jeffersontown At the end of the ramp, turn left : this is Taylorsville Road
Watterson Trail will be at a red light about 3 miles down. There is an El Nopal (NOT the one we went to a couple of years ago) on your right. You can see Johnny V's across from the light on your right at the corner of Watterson Trail. There is a King Southern bank in the same strip mall. You can park in the back. If you pass a KFC on your left, you've gone a hair too far.
Thanks, and we hope to see some faces (new OR old) there!

I'm back! Note on a few missed entries...
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog
Hey guys!
I'm back from my vacation! Anyway, a note on a problem that cropped up thanks (or cures) to the power outage...
Horses that raced week 5009 (or the rodots races for that week) were rejected from racing this week. It affected a couple of hundered horses, but had no bearing on the Derby Lock prep races. Since I'm so late addressing it due to vacation, I cannot change the current races for the week. I will, however, be awarding each affected stable 75 credits/affected horse to bid a comparable race at a later date as well as 25 BPs. If your horse were entered in a stakes race (there were only 5 of these), I will be awarding you the number of credits to purchase a comparable stakes races instead of the 75 credits.
Those credits and BP's should roll through with the normal update and the Wikipedigree credit update.
Sorry for the problem.

Notes for this week of racing
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog
Hey guys!
I am uploading races for 4/14 as I type. They should be done shortly, and you guys will be able to enter as soon as the update light comes on.
I will have very limited access to my computer this week.. only through LogMeIn (a FABULOUS app, btw) on the iPhone. It will be enough to card and upload the Wednesday races, but little else. I have an "emergency helper" that can reboot machines, etc, but little else. My parents are staying at my home but, honestly, they'll be of little help (their VCR still blinks 12:00)... :P
Try to avoid sending me too many "non-vital" e-mails until next Saturday if possible, as they'll likely go unanswered and may get lost in the shuffle.
Thanks again for understanding..my family gives you guys a +1! Talk to you guys soon!

Everything is fine and good..
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog
...a song I'm listening to by one of my favorite bands, Local H, as I type... :) But it does relate to things a bit...
The recarding seems to have done the trick. I haven't heard of anyone having problems after it was redone. I have never had to card 2 different sets of races in the same day, so I was unaware that caching may occur. Sorry again... it's on my "future radar..." :)
But we're still good for the Thursday night run and Friday morning rollover!
Thanks again!

Recarding races as we speak
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog
Hey guys :
When the game pulled the entries, it pulled a cached version from this morning, so all entries after ~ 8:00 am this morning were ignored. That was caused by trying to pull in race entries twice on the same day.
That' obviously not what was intended, so I am recarding the races as we speak. The incorrect results were only up for about 30 minutes, and were taken down as soon as they were spotted.
I am working to recard them ASAP. They should be up in a couple of hours or less.
Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
